An ‘Introduction to Art lessons’ include two lessons to prepare your pupils for the year ahead. Based on teaching an ‘art class’ whereby pupils have an Art lesson each week.
The first lesson suggests giving each group or table an artist. They study a piece of work by the artist and identify its features; focussing on using art vocabulary. They can then design the front cover of their art book based around that artist. Alternatively, you could design a generic art cover for your sketchbooks.
The second lesson looks at the different Art forms and introduces them to the Art display in your classroom. It suggests in the planning each week, the vocabulary and definitions that you could display. It doesn’t have to be a display board- it could just be a washing line or a spare space in the classroom. The pupils write ‘Learning Goals’ and start to think about what they would like to learn during the year, along with what they think they are good at and what they would like to improve.
Each lesson includes: The Learning Objectives, Vocabulary, Task: Starter, Main Activity, End, Additional activities where appropriate, Resource list (including any links to websites).
Other subject links: History and English.
